You are born under the Federal Headship of Adam.
You are born again under the Federal Headship of Christ.
Federal Headship…what is that? Where is that term in the Bible? How do you typically associate the word federal? With government right?
We are all descendant of Adam and have inherited Adam’s since because he is our Federal Head. And because of Adams sin, his sin was then imputed on us and we are under that curse. Condemnation came to all men because of Adams sin.
Romans 5:18-21 tells us:
Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people. For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous. The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Going back to verse 18, we see that one trespass, the one law that Adam broke led to condemnation for all men. So one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. Not just his death on the cross but His whole life. Jesus accomplished everything that Adam failed at doing.
When you look at Matthew chapter 4 – Jesus’ temptation in the desert – Jesus was tempted in very specific ways. It was the same three ways that Adam was tempted but gave into everyone of those temptations.
Matthew 4:1-11
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:
“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.
Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”
Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.
Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.
Now not of us can blame Adam for our sin we are willing participants in our sin. We have inherited his sin nature but we have done things that Adam did not do in the Garden. You have lusted, you have committed adultery in your heart, jesus said if you’ve evert hated anyone you are liable to the fires of hell. You’ve coveted, that is a sin of the heart. All of these things you have done on your own. You can’t blame anyone for these things, you will have to give an account of yourself before God as it says in Romans chapter 14.
Where sin increase grace abounds.
So we’ve heard the law of God which is the Ten commandments. The law of moses revealed we had missed the mark, we were guilty. But where sin increase grace abounded all the more. We had to hear the bad news in order to understand that Jesus sacrifice on the cross for our sins is the good news! You first had to hear that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. As we talked about it in Romans 3:23 that you have broken God’s perfect law and you stand condemned because of your unrighteousness.
As you heard that news grace increased as you heard the news that Jesus has died in your place which was what you didn’t not deserve and now the gospel of Jesus Christ is GOOD NEWS!
If you are with Christ Jesus and a follower of Christ you are being shaped into the image of your creator as it talks about in Romans Chapter 8:29.
For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
