I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the issue of “purpose”. We really need to have the reason why we do what we do nailed down. Now, everybody wants to have a crystal clear purpose for their business, but as believers in Christ, that should be a much different process than it is for others. We have clear instructions from our Savior as to how to go about it.
This is a quick encouragement from the scriptures about this issue. It’s something the LORD showed me just this morning.
As I was praying about this, Psalm 37:4 came to my mind:
Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Now, a lot of people – I think – misinterpret this verse and therefore try to apply it incorrectly to their lives. They think, “If I delight in the Lord, then He’ll pay me off by giving me what I want.”
But I don’t think that’s what this verse means.
When we place our delight in God, Himself, He will give us the desires HE wants us to have. Then, the things that we pursue will be in alignment with His will for our lives and careers.
It comes down to purpose.
I’ve seen it time and time again – the people who make seeking the Lord their top priority are the ones who seem to live with a greater purpose, have a greater sense of direction, and zeal in their lives.
So, as you go about your business today, ask yourself: What are you doing today to DELIGHT YOURSELF in the Lord?
Then, as you do that, start opening your eyes. Look to see what He’s creating within you, to accomplish through the business He’s given you.
