Jordan Peterson and the Young Fogey

Who nailed it this week? She calls herself the “Young Fogey” and she’s got some lessons to teach the Church regarding yet another internet super star, and you need to hear what she has to say!

I’m Joel Fieri, Executive Producer of Christian Podcast Central. And this is “The Best Thing You’ll Hear This Week”

Jordan PetersonDr. Jordan Peterson has taken the internet by storm lately. He’s a very serious and forthright psychology professor from Canada who’s videos and lectures have gained a gigantic following among young people, especially young men, many of whom are Christian. Prominent pastors and Christian thinkers are split on what to make of Peterson’s appeal and whether we should listen to the secular professor’s ideas. It’s set the Christian web-osphere abuzz for months now.

I recently ran across an article titled “5 Lessons Jordan Peterson Has Taught the Church” by Esther O’Reilly in her blog the “Young Fogey”. The lessons are as follows;

1. The Church must authentically meet men’s emotional needs.
2. The Church must satisfy the intellectually curious.
3. The Church must not be afraid of questions.
4. The Church must not be afraid of the dark. (Meaning basically that “life is suffering”)
5. The Church must be willing to stand up.

This last lesson resonated with me. Dr. Peterson gained fame partly by his refusal to bow to trans-gender political pressure, stating that he “would not” use “preferred pronouns” even if forced by law.

This is what Ms. O’Reilly wrote concerning this aspect of his appeal, and what I consider the Best Thing You’ll Hear This Week.

“The fact that Peterson wouldn’t in fact sign on to a holistic conservative Christian worldview is not the point here. The point is that increasingly few Christians are willing to stand for anything. They think they are earning credit with people by capitulating to every new demand of the broader culture, when all they are earning is contempt and empty pews. The Church must be willing to say “I will not.” The Church must be willing to stand up and be counted. If she loses her soul now, she will never find it again.”

This is why so many young people, especially young men, are gravitating towards the likes of Jordan Peterson, Ben Shapiro and others from various other faiths or philosophies, precisely because THEY are the ones standing against the absurdities and dogmatism of their leftist-dominated world. The Church, by and large, is not!

The young Fogey nailed it, and It’s the best thing you’ll hear this week!
