“Mr. President, in the Bible, rain is a sign of God’s blessing; and it started to rain, Mr. President, when you came to the platform.” – Franklin Graham at the Inauguration of President Donald J. Trump, January 20, 2017
Well in Genesis 7, rain was a sign of judgment when God flooded the earth and destroyed millions of people in their wickedness.
I will send rain on the earth forty days and forty nights, and every living thing I have made I will blot out from the face of the ground. (Genesis 7:4)
In my wrath I will unleash a violent wind, and in my anger hailstones and torrents of rain will fall with destructive fury. (Ezekiel 13:13)
In Matthew 5:45, Jesus said,
“For He makes the sun rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the just and on the unjust”
Do you really think that a casino and strip club owner, a serial adulterer, pornographer, and an obscene bully, who said that he needs to become president in order to get to heaven…
“And I figure [becoming president is] probably maybe the only way I’m going to get to heaven.” – Donald Trump, speaking to a group of 700 pastors in Orlando, FL, August 11, 2016
…has boasted no one’s read the Bible more than he has,
“Nobody reads the Bible more than me.” – Donald Trump, speaking at Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA, February 24, 2016
…yet doesn’t think he has needed to ask God’s forgiveness,
Frank Luntz: Have you ever asked God for forgiveness?
Donald Trump: I’m not sure I have.
– Interview at the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, IA, July 18, 2015
…whose idea of Christianity includes: Paula White, a televangelist prosperity woman pastor, Timothy Dolan, a Cardinal who prays to Mary, Samuel Rodriguez, a New Apostolic Reformation false prophet, Maravin Hier, a Christ-denying Jewish rabbi, and Wayne T. Jackson, a bishop who preached to his church that Trump’s wealth is a sign of God’s blessing.
“Donald Trump is an example of someone who has been blessed by God. Look at his homes, businesses, his wife, and his jet. You don’t get those things unless you have the favor of God.” – Wayne T. Jackson
The point is this:
The Bible doesn’t mean what you want it to mean. It means with the Holy Spirit of God says it means, since He’s the One who guided the prophets and apostles who spoke the word of the Lord.
No prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 1:20-21)
So stop taking your personal feelings and finding a Bible verse that fits just so you can say, “Oh look… this must be from God!”
God said through the prophet Isaiah,
“All these things my hand has made, and so all these things came to be, declares the Lord. But this is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and who trembles at my word.” (Isaiah 66:2)
The sign of God’s blessing is when you turn from your sin and worship Christ…
…when we understand the text.
