Gordon Douglas came out of Philadelphia, inspired by a pair of other lesser known Philly comics: David Brenner and Bill Cosby. When Gordon started out, he had an angry and bitter comedic style, but after growing older, wiser, getting married and raising 19 kids, he has mellowed out some over the years.
Dating back to the days of Bill Haley & the Comets and the Gong Show, Gordon’s career has seen a lot of changes – as has the comedy biz in general. For instance, the relatively new “Church Comedy Circuit” offers comedians a place to perform and entertain without “going blue”, but you still have to be good. Church audiences are typically kind, loving and gentle… but if you don’t bring you’re A-game, they’ll gong you off as quick as Ruth Buzzie or Wolfman Jack!
