Proverbs 31:15-16

She gets up while it is still night;

She provides food for her family

And portions for her female servants.

She considers a field and buys it;

Out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.

In light of today’s technology and society, should I really need to get up before it’s light and get to work?

The key to this verse is that she does get up and going early enough to prepare for the day ahead, loving and caring for our family, extended family and friends. This may mean that we need to put our own selfish desires: extra sleep, extra cup of coffee, etc. behind the needs of others. Perhaps even getting to work early to help others get their days off to a quick and easy start. And for those of us who are business owners or managers, the section of scripture that speaks of her servants refers to those who we employ or supervise. We need to strategize and implement these plans early enough to provide for those who work for us so that their day can get off to a running start. We need to meet all our obligations to them, whether they be employees, contractors or volunteers.

The Proverbs 31 woman does not make rash or hasty decisions. She considers her options carefully then is resolute and steady in seeing her decision through to the end. She seeks wise counsel then moves in a decisive manner.

Finally, we need to be wise and generous in the investments we make and the decisions we make in regards to our income.
