What is a minister?
Webster’s Dictionary defines a “minister” as: One who acts under the orders of another, or who is employed by another to execute his purposes.
Who are we under and from whom do we receive our instructions? Jesus Christ!
So, God has given us our spouses and our children to minister His will to. Therefore, it’s extremely important that we see ourselves as ministers – not just husbands, wives, or parents.
We are here, under God and His will, to serve one another. If we maintain this perspective, then we won’t find ourselves arguing over what “he wants” or what “she wants”, but both husband and wife will be desiring to fulfill what God wants.
A disciple of Jesus Christ is a minister under and unto Jesus Christ. Minister = Disciple
Jesus set the best example.
Jesus came down to minister to us and denied everything for us, including His very life. On the night that He was arrested, He passionately prayed, “I don’t want to do this, but I don’t want my will to be done, but Yours.”
And that’s what our hearts need to be as well.
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.” (Matthew 7:21)
As Christians, our disposition must be to fulfill His will and purpose, not our own.
Not selectively pick and choose which parts of His Word are applicable, but wholly embrace His Word.
One of the main purposes that God has for us as husbands and wives is God’s glorification – in us and through us and our marriage.
For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. (1 Corinthians 6:20)
Glorify means to reflect. We are to reflect the image of Christ, so that when people look at who we are and what we do, they see the face of Jesus. Yet, sadly, most spouses are not constantly concerned about reflecting the image of Christ to their husband or wife.
Imagine how much it could change our marriages if we woke up each day and prayed that God would help us reflect Him to our spouses. Imagine how glorified God would be if we simply followed His will in regards how we treat and acknowledge one another!
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her (Ephesians 5:25)
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. (Ephesians 5:22)
God’s Glorification begins with Our Transformation. It’s not about getting all your ducks in a row before coming to God, but to come to Him as you are and allow Him to transform you from the inside out, and even in our marriages.
God gave you your spouse to be one of His tools for your transformation.
