ABOUT THE HOST

REAL STUFF MY DAD SAYS
For years, my dad has been giving me advice on how to better myself, deal with “hard to deal with” people, and how to be honest in evaluating myself as well. Of course, this advice wasn’t always eagerly welcomed. I was a typical American teenager and young adult who would rather make my own mistakes than listen to my old man. But now that I’m older and seeing the wisdom of his “dad-isms”, I feel like my dad has been blessed with these pearls of fatherly wisdom that should be shared with people beyond our family and close friends.

When I look in the mirror, I simply see my dad’s kid, my kids’ dad and my wife’s husband. I’m a guy who’s made more than my fair share of mistakes, but for some ridiculous reason, God continues to want to love and use for His purposes. No matter where God seems to place me and my family, He has proven that if we continually seek what He wants, then we will continually be provided for beyond what we imagined!

Real Stuff My Dad Says podcasting topics include: equipping you with pearls of wisdom, encouraging you in your day-to-day life, teaching you about how to know God’s plan for your life, applying Christian biblical principles to your relationships, how to influence the culture through our personal conduct, and much more.

THE PODCAST
As the title suggests, this podcast is about real stuff that my dad says. Each week, my dad, Rod Drexler, and I will discuss these perspectives and truths, which typically stem from relating with one another and taking each other into consideration as God intends us to. As my dad lays out in episode 8, his life verse is Matthew 16:24, where Jesus says: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” This lifestyle of putting service to others and to God before your own selfish wants and desires has inspired many of his “Dadism’s” that we will discuss, such as “How Does A Selfish Person Know They’re Selfish?” or “Wives Complete Men”. These issues can have a profound effect on influencing our culture.
God’s number one priority is “relationships”: The holy relationship of the Trinity, the relationship between God and each of us, and the relationships between us and other people. Therefore, it’s critical that we look at what molds and guides our decisions and what influences the decisions of others before we make snap judgements on how to react and deal with one another. And often, the difficult part begins with that hard look in the mirror – particularly at the People, Places and Things that we chose to surround ourselves with (Real Stuff My Dad Says, episode 4). However, once the uncomfortable work is done, we can find ourselves living in peace with one another, with the many voices playing inside our own heads and with God Himself.

Over time, I will have other guests as well, including my incredibly wise father-in-law and other dads who have been gifted with cool, real stuff that will help us all live the way that God has in mind for us – “to do what is right, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God and with one another” (Micah 6:8).

Be sure to leave a comment or two about the podcast and your perspective. Also tell a friend or two about us. Meanwhile, as my kids always say, “I’m just trying to help.”

Real Stuff My Dad Says 22: Exposure, Exposure, Exposure

According to my dad, people may not be as big of idiots as you may assume. In fact, just as in the real estate business, the secret is location, location, location; in the relationship business, the secret is exposure, exposure, exposure.  Some people are simply exposed to more than other people and therefore have different […]

Real Stuff My Dad Says 21: Back to the Future Theology

According to my dad, the small choices that we make can make significant impacts on our lives and on the lives of the people around us.  Like in the movie “Back to the Future”, and going all the way back to Biblical times, we see opportunities taken or passed on, mistakes made or avoided, or […]

Real Stuff My Dad Says 20: Remember!

According to my dad, it is INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT to remember the events and relationships of your life.  In Biblical times, people were instructed to build altars so that they and generations to come would remember significant moments when God met their needs.  Today, this can be done by simply snapping photos with your phone and […]

Real Stuff My Dad Says 19: Your Sister Is Outside

Things (and people) aren’t always as they seem.  That guy in an MLB jersey may just be a batboy, that grouch might be someone with a tender heart who has been wounded, and that homeless woman is indeed someone’s sister, daughter and maybe even mom. As my dad says, when we realize that there is […]
