ABOUT THE HOST

REAL STUFF MY DAD SAYS
For years, my dad has been giving me advice on how to better myself, deal with “hard to deal with” people, and how to be honest in evaluating myself as well. Of course, this advice wasn’t always eagerly welcomed. I was a typical American teenager and young adult who would rather make my own mistakes than listen to my old man. But now that I’m older and seeing the wisdom of his “dad-isms”, I feel like my dad has been blessed with these pearls of fatherly wisdom that should be shared with people beyond our family and close friends.

When I look in the mirror, I simply see my dad’s kid, my kids’ dad and my wife’s husband. I’m a guy who’s made more than my fair share of mistakes, but for some ridiculous reason, God continues to want to love and use for His purposes. No matter where God seems to place me and my family, He has proven that if we continually seek what He wants, then we will continually be provided for beyond what we imagined!

Real Stuff My Dad Says podcasting topics include: equipping you with pearls of wisdom, encouraging you in your day-to-day life, teaching you about how to know God’s plan for your life, applying Christian biblical principles to your relationships, how to influence the culture through our personal conduct, and much more.

THE PODCAST
As the title suggests, this podcast is about real stuff that my dad says. Each week, my dad, Rod Drexler, and I will discuss these perspectives and truths, which typically stem from relating with one another and taking each other into consideration as God intends us to. As my dad lays out in episode 8, his life verse is Matthew 16:24, where Jesus says: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” This lifestyle of putting service to others and to God before your own selfish wants and desires has inspired many of his “Dadism’s” that we will discuss, such as “How Does A Selfish Person Know They’re Selfish?” or “Wives Complete Men”. These issues can have a profound effect on influencing our culture.
God’s number one priority is “relationships”: The holy relationship of the Trinity, the relationship between God and each of us, and the relationships between us and other people. Therefore, it’s critical that we look at what molds and guides our decisions and what influences the decisions of others before we make snap judgements on how to react and deal with one another. And often, the difficult part begins with that hard look in the mirror – particularly at the People, Places and Things that we chose to surround ourselves with (Real Stuff My Dad Says, episode 4). However, once the uncomfortable work is done, we can find ourselves living in peace with one another, with the many voices playing inside our own heads and with God Himself.

Over time, I will have other guests as well, including my incredibly wise father-in-law and other dads who have been gifted with cool, real stuff that will help us all live the way that God has in mind for us – “to do what is right, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God and with one another” (Micah 6:8).

Be sure to leave a comment or two about the podcast and your perspective. Also tell a friend or two about us. Meanwhile, as my kids always say, “I’m just trying to help.”

Real Stuff My Dad Says 32: The Day That Dad (Almost) Died

In the movies, when heroes narrowly escape death, we gasp, we cheer, we fist bump and then we go home. But, when we, ourselves, are met with true peril – when WE almost die – the gravity of the moment is much more impactful than in the movies. In this week’s podcast, my dad recalls […]

Real Stuff My Dad Says 30: What Is Love?

One of the most imporant things that impacted my dad’s early life happened when he was an unambitious high schooler.  An english teacher asked the question, “What is love?”  It was the first time that an authority figure asked my dad an open ended question with the purpose of creating an open and honest dialogue. Real Stuff My Dad Says 29: Exchanging Information

When most people are in a scenario where they have to “exchange information”, it’s rarely a pleasant experience.  In most cases, it follows a fenderbender, traffic ticket or worse. Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush or even Biblical heroes… the key to how people will be remembered often depends on how we prepare for life and how we respond to life as it hits us.  Likewise, when we view other people and how they react to life’s opportunities, we need to keep an open attitude […]

Real Stuff My Dad Says 27: Do You Send Him?

According to my dad, “The most important play is the one that hasn’t happened yet.”  In baseball, and in life, it’s important to mentally prepare for any situation that the game – or life – may send your way.; If you think ahead and plan for a line drive coming at you, or ground ball, […]
