ABOUT THE HOST

CONFESSIONS OF A CLOSET CHRISTIAN

In Confessions of a Closet Christian, Jana Elizabeth Stambaugh explores Christianity from a 20-something perspective, relaying modern trends, discoveries, struggles, and pop culture references.

THE PODCAST
Confessions of a Closet Christian seeks to explore current issues facing today’s youth. In a world where Christianity can feel taboo, it’s hard to talk about faith. We’d rather tweet, Facebook, or Instagram our thoughts and it’s better if those thoughts share something about Justin Bieber – not Jesus. Confessions of a Closet Christian examines why we hide in today’s society and refrain from sharing our faith with this culture. It encourages us to share what we believe to be true – even when it’s socially awkward, uncool, and not trending on Twitter.

Confessions of a Closet Christian 8: Why Is It Hard To Follow God’s Will?

Often times, when we find ourselves seeking God’s will and direction in our lives, we actually end up sitting and waiting for a step-by-step roadmap. Now, don’t get me wrong.  God does often want us to wait – days, weeks, months… even years sometimes.  But I think that sometimes we get so hung up on […]

Confessions of a Closet Christian 7: Why Is It Hard to Call Sin What It Is?

If we believe that Jesus died for us, then our sins are washed away and forgiven. But still, we continue to sin. Sometimes I think that I treat sin like an ostrich would.  I earnestly plant my head in the sand with the hopes that maybe – just maybe – if I don’t see it, […]

Confessions Of A Closet Christian 6: Why Is It Hard To See God & Why Do We Ignore What Is Right In Front Of Us?

On a recent trip to israel, I found myself reluctant to even be there.  Afraid of what God would say to me, show me or even ask me to do.  Feeling like Jonah in my reluctance, I even found myself standing where he may have stood in the ancient port of Jaffa. Israel felt unusual. […]

Confessions of a Closet Christian 5: Who Are We To Judge?

We shouldn’t marginalize.  It’s not our job. It seems that the root of all this judgemental behavior that I see today is our won ego-centric pride.  And as long as our pride is inflated – as long as we view ourselves as better than the next person – we’re okay.  So we feed this behavior […]

Confessions of a Closet Christian 4: What Makes A Story Good and Which Story Do We Prefer?

Epic adventures, intrigue, battles, sport, magic, romance, three acts with intricate conflict – these are what I’ve always considered the ingredients of a good story. But when I think of the Bible, all that comes to mind is a heavy brick of a book full of strict rules with harsh and exclusive undertones and overtones. […]

Confessions of a Closet Christian 3: Why Do Only Old People Attend Church?

What is the church?  It’s not a building, but rather, it’s people.  And the reality is that it’s sinful, hypocritical people.  The problem is that we – these very sinful people – need Jesus more than we can imagine.  And we need to share His story more than we do.  That is how we can […]

Confessions of a Closet Christian 2 – Evangelism

When i hear the word “evangelism”, it makes me think of an overbearing streetcorner preacher.  The word alone makes me feel uncomfortable.  Saying, “I’m a Christian” illicits a militant response.  Maybe it’s that deeply rooted idiom, “don’t talk about religion or politics in polite company.” But that’s not what Jesus did… or said… OUT LOUD! […]

Confessions of a Closet Christian 1

In this, the premiere episode of Confessions of a Closet Christian, Jana Elizabeth Stambaugh notices that the younger generation is happy to identify themselves with Justin Bieber’s “Beliebers,” but won’t call themselves believers.  They’ll ask What Would Ryan Lochte Do before considering What Would Jesus Do?  Why, as Christians, do we prefer to be associated with pop culture […]
